The Good & The Chaos
Recently, whenever I am asked “how’s life?" I tend to respond with one word: chaotic.
I follow it up with…”and good!”
I have a feeling a lot of people can confirm that life is pretty chaotic for them as well.
It’s hard sometimes to remember that we are not the only ones.
Life is chaotic for everyone, in different ways: busy kids, hectic work, extra curriculars, family health concerns, transition in life, juggling variety of responsibilities, etc.
Life can also be good! for everyone in different ways: healthy family, more free time, catching up on reading, starting a new class, new exercise regimen, etc.
I think sometimes people forget we can have both. Both can share the room and it is okay.
I think sometimes people do not necessarily allow the good to share the room. If we take time to really process that, we usually see that they are lacking the empathy and validation from others that they really need.
Ok, so just for a minute, let’s say you are telling me “there is no good.”
I can almost always challenge that, but that is not always what people want to do.
Let’s entertain this for a minute though. Let’s say, “ok, so there is no good.”
My next question would be, “how can we create the good?”
Sometimes that means increasing/adding boundaries. Sometimes that means getting out of your comfort zone. Sometimes that means shifting your mindset.
Either way, sure, you might not want to do it. However, you are still reading. There might be hope.
The purpose of the variety of good, is to show you it can be tiny moments (I absolutely love a relaxing bedtime routine and am very grateful for that part of my day), or it can be changes that readjust your whole day (reading at 8:00pm with no further use of a cell phone can be a game changer).
For the simple fact that it is the holidays (which are not always super great for everyone), don’t you think you would enjoy implementing some good?
Even if that means other people might get uncomfortable with it…. wouldn’t you say you deserve the good for once?
Reach out…we can navigate the rest together.
